Malala’s Voice

Malala’s voice
Malala made her voice heard by speaking out against the Taliban for girls education.
She spoke to interviewers and news reporter that she won’t go by the Taliban’s rules. “ You are speaking for peace. For your rights. For the rights of girls. That’s not wrong.” This statement said by Malala shows how she speaks with confidence against the Taliban.
Nevertheless, she still went to school everyday and even blogged about, going to school even if it’s against the Taliban’s rules.
Above all, she still needed to be careful so that the Taliban don’t find her. Even though she knows she could get hurt she continues to follow her beliefs, she is an inspiration to many girls, including me.
These were a couple of reasons why Malala wanted to and how she accomplished it. I feel very motivated and inspired by her, motivated to stick up for myself and inspired to make a statement, if I tried hard enough like her.

Be Malala, Be Different

Be Different, Be Malala

Education is important to Malala because, where she lives girls aren’t expected or allowed to have an education.
For a start, Malala has to go into hiding when she goes to school so the Taliban don’t see her. “The uniform I once loved made me feel like a criminal.” With this in her mind, she is saying her school uniform feels foreign to her, like it doesn’t belong, like what the other people say about girls not being allowed to go to school true.
To tell the truth, Malala’s mother didn’t have an education since she wasn’t required or allowed to, like most wives, knowing this Malala wanted to be different. “ Even my own mother, who’d grown up in the village, couldn’t read.” This statement is said by Malala, this also shows what kind of education system they have in Pakistan.
These were a handful of reasons why I speculate education is critical to Malala.

In Person or through Technology?

Despite bearing some minor similarities the difference between communicating in person and communicating through technology are clear.

Talking on a device is a convenient way to talk, you are very distracted at the same time from what’s going on around you.You don’t pay attention when you talk on your phone. A lot of people don’t pay attention to where they are when they talk or text on their device, but people are also like that when they talk in person as well. An example is when people in public talk on their phone they’re not aware of how loud or disruptive they are, because they are immersed in their conversation, it’s the same with people talking in person too. “One time I was on my phone with headphones on and didn’t know I was talking too loud when I was at my mom’s shop, this also happened when I had a friend over and went shopping and got in trouble for talking to loud as well.”You can multi-task communicating on your device or in person. You can multi-task doing either just be careful not to do the wrong thing while multi-tasking. To prevent the worst case scenarios from happening, just pay more attention to where you, what your doing, and how you act. Even though you are multi-tasking just make sure your doing it carefully.

A difference between communicating with technology and communicating in person is, when you talk to the person you are speaking with on the phone it could cut off at any time if not careful. However, when when you talk in person you don’t have anything to cut you off mid sentence. An example is when my friend was talking to me and it cut off while she was talking, but when she talks to me in person she doesn’t get cut off. Another difference is you have to be at the same place at the same time, unlike when talking in person where you have to be in the same place and time.

These were some differences and similarities between communicating with technology and communicating in person. I personally think communicating with technology is very convenient, but it’s not the same as talking in person.

Birthday Fun

Laughter fills the air
It’s full of happiness and joy
We dance and sing without a care
Even if my parents stare
Spending my birthday with family and friends
I wish it would never end

We didn’t have cake to share
But we didn’t care
We were having fun all on our own
But we had to say goodbye
I stand in the wind as it makes my hair fly
But my satisfaction stays inside

“Betrayal by a Friend” from the book “Out of my Mind”

We were like two peas in a pod

but you were a fraud

we laughed and hung

until you made me think we were done

then again this has happened before

this still left me sore

I don’t want us to fail

but leaving me was just betrayal

I will remember this for so long

so you know you did wrong

to be honest I thought you were my friend

so we’ll part ways and bid farewell

even though you made my heart swell

but I am me and you are you

so do what you will

but I will continue to stay.

Friends.

Betrayal.

Silence.

Literary Response

These are a few reasons I think, Percy Jackson from “The Lightning Thief” and Melody Brooks from “Out of my Mind” are similar. To start with, they both have some disabilities, like Melody can not do things on her own, and Percy has A.D.H.D. which makes him restless and not able to focus, and dyslexia which makes it hard for him to read correctly. They were like a baby bird about to fly. ” I can’t walk. I can’t talk. I can’t feed myself or take myself to the bathroom.” ” Diagnosed with dyslexia. Probably A.D.H.D., too.” With this in mind, they also both have some hidden talents know one knew, like how Percy can control water and is very talented in sword fighting. Also how Melody is super smart, and has photographic memory. “I stepped into the creek, instantly I felt better. I could feel the cuts on my chest closing up.” “I suppose it’s a good thing to be unable to forget anything.” It’s like they could anything and everything. Melody and Percy are, not to mention, smarter than people think. “The only person who got every single correct is Melody Brooks.” “That’s because your mind is hardwired for Ancient Greek. As for attention problems, that’s because you see too much Percy, not too little. Your senses are better than a regular mortal’s.” They are baby tigers learning how to hunt for the first time.
Nevertheless, these were a few things I thought were similar between, Percy Jackson from “The Lightning Thief” and Melody Brooks from “Out of my Mind.”

What I Think About Sharon Draper’s Writing

These are a few things I like Sharon Draper’s book, “Out of my Mind.”
Sharon Draper is descriptive about most of the characters we have read in the book. Like,
“If Maria is our hugger then Gloria is our rocker.” Also ” Willy loves baseball.” ” Freddy, who’s almost twelve is the oldest in our group.”She also has descriptive language that creates imagery. Like ” I slide out of my wheelchair like wet spaghetti.” Or ‘it was white and soft and just the right size for chubby baby fingers to pick up.” “I couldn’t roll over, so it was just an irritated me, the shag rug, and the smell of spilled sour soy milk in my face until I got rescued.” She also puts the story in first person so we experience what she does. ” I remember stupid stuff, like the feel of a lump of oatmeal stuck on the roof of my mouth, or the taste of toothpaste not rinsed of my teeth. ” I love the smell of my mother’s hair after she washes it.”
Those were a few things I like about Sharon Draper’s book ” Out of my Mind.”
